Question: Can we see any documentation as to the Home and Care standards?
Answer: Yes, the Home's Care Quality Commission Inspection Reports can be found on display at our Care Home, also by visiting www.cqc.org.uk and searching for our latest on-line Inspection Report.
Question: Will I have a Care Plan?
Answer: Yes, a Care Plan will be tailored to meet your individual needs. You can be closely involved with this if you wish. It will be reviewed on a regular basis and a copy can be obtained from your Named Carer.
Question: What is the continuity and level of staffing in the Home?
Answer: We are very fortunate that our staff remain loyal and committed to our care home and have therefore remained in continuous service for quite some time. Staffing levels are always set to ensure that staff have time to care for our resident's needs.
Question: Who will look after my medicines?
Answer: All medicines prescribed by a Doctor are stored in secured medicine cabinets and are dispensed at the prescribed times by the Senior Carer on duty. If you are able to look after your own medicine, this can be arranged.
Question: Does the home have a formal contract stating terms of Residency?
Answer: Yes, we have a full and comprehensive contract that has been worded in accordance with the Office of Fair Trading guidelines to ensure ease of use. A copy of our contract can be quickly arranged should the need arise.
Question: Is the Care Home Registered?
Answer: Yes, the Home is registered with the Care Quality Commission to care for 24 residents and is managed by Julie Morrison our Registered Manager with 20 years of experience.
Question: What happens before I come into the Home?
Answer: The Care Manager, or a senior member of the management team will make an appointment to visit you at home or in hospital. This enables us to carry out an assessment of your care needs.
Question: What happens if I need some assistance?
Answer: Although you may need some help in caring for yourself, we hope you will continue to undertake those daily tasks you are currently able to do. Your "personal carer", will plan a programme to ensure you get all the help you need.
Question: Can I bring my own items of furniture?
Answer: Yes, as long as the items are able to fit practically within your room and meet the necessary fire safety regulations.
Question: Can I have a pet?
Answer: This might be possible but, of course dependent on the care needs of the pet. We would certainly give it serious consideration.
Question: Can I have a lie in if I feel like it?
Answer: Of course you can. You can simply request breakfast at a later time.
Question: Can my family and grandchildren visit me?
Answer: Yes, we think this is very important, and as well as calling to see you, we would like them to become involved in the life of the Home. You can also choose a day to have meals with your family and/or friends.
Question: What if I need to see a Dentist or the Optician?
Answer: We have a visiting Dentist and Optician who will call whenever needed.
Question: What arrangements are made to cater for religious requirements?
Answer: We have links to most of the local church and religious organisations, and your own Spiritual Leader is welcome to visit you at any time. Families or friends are welcome to take you to organised services.
Question: Do you accept residents who suffer from dementia?
Answer: Yes, some of our residents within our care home have dementia and the staff have the requisite skills to care for them.
Question: Will I have to sell my house prior to moving into care?
Answer: A financial assessment will have to be undertaken to establish your personal situation. If requested we will direct you to a number of independent financial consultants who will be able to advise you.
Question: What is a Top Up?
Answer: A Top Up is the difference between what the local authority contribute towards the cost of care accommodation and what the resident or their third party has to pay.
Question: Does Shannon Court specialise in any types of care?
Answer: Yes we do, dementia care, palliative care, respite care, convalescent care and physiotherapy is available at our home.
Question: Can I visit my family
Answer: Yes we encourage all our residents to maintain social ties with families & friends at all times. Just let us know before leaving the home to meet the requirements of our Fire Safety Procedures.
Question: What happens if I go in to hospital?
Answer: If you require a hospital admission your room remains vacant until you are ready to return. Arrangements for the room can be made if the stay in hospital is likely to be more than four weeks.
Question: I am a quite fussy about my food, will this be a problem?
Answer: Your dietary needs will be identified and discussed as part of your pre-admission assessment. Our chefs have many years experience and to date we have always met the individual needs of each resident.
Question: What other facilities are available?
Answer: Passenger lift, wheelchair access, garden for residents, phone point in own room, tv in own room, and it should be noted that smoking is only allowed in the designated area.
Question: Are there any Languages spoken other than English?
Answer: Polish and Tagalog
Question: What is an Advance Directive and do I need one?
Answer: Advance directives (also known as living wills) allow you to outline the treatment and care you would like in the future, when you may not be able to communicate your wishes. It is up to you to decide if it relevant.
Question: Can Shannon Court help me with the Advance Directive?
Answer: We would recommend that you involve your doctor in writing your advance directive as he will be able help you go through the issues involved. Also, speak to your close friends or relatives regarding this matter.
Question: Where are the nearest shops?
Answer: Just a short level walk approximately half a mile away.
Question: Is there a nearby park?
Answer: Yes, only a matter of 300 yards or so away.
Question: Where is the nearest bus stop?
Answer: It's just a matter of minutes away by foot.
Question: Where is the nearest railway station?
Answer: It's approximately 10 minutes away by car.
